An ACEO & a poem, unrelated in so much as they can be.

perilous castles
we build,
at the edge of ourselves
reaching for change
& for cataclysm.
falling over
welcome cliffs,
breaking
unnecessary
appendages

my latest mission.

Lately i've been drawing a lot of ACEO's (which is probably evident from my previous post). Something about their glorious smallness frees me from the idea that i can't draw. So i've decided to challenge myself to draw at least one ACEO everyday & post the results here. Most of them will probably end up in my shop, PoisonLake.etsy.com.
One of my favorite themes recently is "dinosaur attacks city" not exactly original, but it makes me smile every time. Yesterday's interpretation of this theme is called "Dissatisfied with the portions offered by the donut shop, Larry samples other forms of sustenance...if only the filling would stop screaming".
Other than Larry, yesterday's mindfruit include the flashcard-esque "L is for Log" & "Whalescape with Cliff & Steam".

On an unrelated note, my live-in & i have decided to move back to our home town for a bit. The thought of which makes me feel like i might throw up a little, though it's probably a good thing long-termwise (the moving, not the throwing up). My parents are beginning to appreciate my long hours of dinosaur creation & my dad is thinking about investing in my business, maybe even helping me set up a small consignment shop, which is just about the most amazing thing i can think of. The best part thought, is that moving back to Marysville means a real house with a real yard (yay!) for about half the cost of our current apartment. i dance the dance of anxious anticipation & mixed happiness & dread. kind of like this guy --------->

ACEOs aplenty

i've been doodling vigorously & for the first time in possibly all of time, i kind of like the results. i bought a couple of small canvases & will be attempting some further paint-muddled endeavors.

what i like most about making stuffed creatures & drawing tiny pictures is getting to imagine the world that surrounds the little artifact i'm creating. for me, nothing i make is static or unconnected, they're more like little pieces of my internal world that i've recreated in a form more accessible to others. so, Enid the Plesiosaur is actually just stopping off in my living room on her way to her next yeti-tracking adventure. & somewhere, there's a planet populated by robots & tentacled sea-beasts who await the yearly coming of the cupcake rain. at some point, i'd like to have a studio or a shop to display my work, so that i could assemble as many fragments of my inner realms in one place as possible. for now, i'm thinking i'll start with some little shadow boxes, so i can set up "snap shots" of that universe.

things i do when i'm bored & some other nifty stuff

for various reasons (social anxiety, not having a job, etc.) , i find myself with a lot of spare time. i'm also told that i don't talk much, which i suppose is true. the combination of factors means i have to amuse myself a lot, so i thought i'd share a few of the ways i've found to do so.
i've always liked to play with everyday objects, a habit that drove my mom crazy when i was little & accident prone. now that i'm less little & under my own jurisdiction most of the time (though still pretty accident prone) i can play with pretty much whatever i like. so, i've become an expert at the lost arts of condiment towers (mainly sugar substitutes & creamer) & shower hair sculpture.
occasionally, if i'm feeling particularly board & ambitious, i'll pick up a paint brush. usually this only leads to frustration & paper wasting, but occasionally i find the results to my liking. this one is something i painted for my human sexuality project a couple of semesters ago, it isn't officially titled, but i've always thought of it as "Parabola" like the Tool song.
sometimes when i find myself caffeine deprived in class i attempt the often misguided desk-doodle. not being the best doodler, i more often just scribble a poem. i left a haiku on a desk in my history class in my spindly, chicken scratch handwriting, only to return to a re-written & illustrated version. it completely made my day. it's a little hard to read, but it says

Face like a Teacup
Overflowing emptiness
Saucer far too small

you can just make out the last line of my original version above the much prettier one. if these solutions fail, there is one more possibility; a wander. this can be just a walk around the neighborhood or if i'm feeling more adventurous (which i'm usually not, unless i have a traveling companion), a train hop to another part of the city. when it's wander time, i like to document the interesting things other people do, like hanging poorly worded signs.
lastly, this doesn't exactly fit in, but it's the best no parking sign i've seen to date, so here you go:
